Seborrhoea means oily skin. It is caused by the sebaceous glands in the skin which produce more or less sebum in response to certain substances, including hormones. In a person with an oily skin type, even the smallest stimulus from hormones is sufficient to trigger the production of more sebum than is necessary. There is often an underlying genetic predisposition.
Most of the sebaceous glands in the skin are present on the forehead, nose, chin, décolleté, shoulders and back. The pores in these parts of the body also tend to become blocked, which can lead to the formation of blackheads and blemishes. Oily skin usually tends to be robust and not sensitive because the oily film provides it with effective protection against external factors. The right care with products designed specifically for this skin type will enable oily skin to stay young for an especially long time since it is more difficult for wrinkles to develop.
The skin around the eyes does not contain sebaceous glands, elastin fibres or collagen. This skin therefore naturally contains less moisture, it tends to be dry, thinner and, as a result, particularly sensitive. And this is why the first signs of skin aging tend to appear here. Since the skin around the eyes is different, it needs special treatments designed specifically to protect it against premature aging.
